Yomely

Do you know what the word Yomely means? You don’t! In that case this story is for you!

By Jude H. (10th Grade)

The Yomely Brotherhood had gathered in the Pallid Square, the sea of grey tunics of varying shades filling the visions of passersby. There must have been at least twelve score and twenty in the massive throng that spread like strange butter over the paved square.

Brother Grau made his way through the crowd, to the makeshift podium on the makeshift stage to make a makeshift speech. A smattering of applause greeted him as he stood behind the wood that served as a sort of shield against the stares of the masses.

He began his speech.

“Friends, Yomans, Countrymen, lend me your ears. Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth upon this continent, a new grayish one, conceived in sheep, er, fleece. The Musterdeviller!”

Brother Grau received a hearty dose of applause for mentioning the great musterdeviller, a type of woolen grey cloth worn by the Elite Yomely. It was said to be a sign of great yomely dedication.

Brother Grau went on. “I have a cream of gray! Now it is possible that you may rub this cream into other colors of clothes, that they may also be gray! We are the Yomely! Wearers of Gray! Proud Bearers of the Musterdeviller!”

The thunderous smacking of the hands rang in Brother Grau’s ears as he descended the makeshift stage. He took a small bow and smiled.
