Thanksgiving

Anika H.’s fiction poem about Thanksgiving food

Anika H. (9th Grade)

Thanksgiving is a holiday

I’m sure you’re all aware of

However there are several things

That you must be beware of

I do not like dry turkey

But far worse is in that pot

The solution that looks murky

Is it food, you ask? It’s not.

The gravy smells suspicious

And the pumpkin pie is grey

The cookies look alright, except

They’re placed on an ashtray

There are several squishy salads

Made with maggot cheese and chalk

The apple and the chocolate pie

Are solid as a rock

A confusing-looking casserole

With toenails stuck inside

Smells very faint of bleach, cause it

Has hydrogen peroxide

The cornbread dressing ain’t that bad,

It’s only three weeks old

We have chunky mashed potatoes

That are only mostly cold

The butter looks appealing

And the rolls are piping hot

But the rolls are filled with fish guts

And the butter’s made of snot

Yes, Thanksgiving is a holiday

I’m sure you’re all aware of

But these foods in particular

You really must beware of
