The epic saga of Wilburt’s journey from a worm in desperate need of a date to a happy worm who made a contribution to society.
by Ana G. (7th Grade)
It was the day before the annual animal Valentine’s Dance. All the animals had a date, except for me, Wilburt the Worm. No one wanted to go with me because I didn’t have any arms or legs! How was I supposed to dance?! I was desperate! I put up posters saying, “please be my date, I am a cheetah, not a worm, I am an AMAZING dancer! If you are interested, dial the number 088-35-674-555-555.” I don’t know how, but it worked! I got about 100 calls! I decided to go with this giraffe named Gina. But when she saw me at the dance and found out I was a worm, she screamed, smacked me on the ground, and ran away screaming even louder. I tried to chase her but I couldn’t. That’s when I noticed something. Lying on the ground and moving creates a very funky dance! Before I knew it, I was having a lot of fun! And everyone else started doing it! I call it, “The Worm!” A dance that everyone can do. Even the animals without arms and legs. You’re welcome.
