A poem about Anika’s idealized and very much fictional hero, Rodrigo.
by Anika H. (9th Grade)
This is the tale of a person
A tale that will show
All the wonderful things
About Rodrigo
Rodrigo the handsome
Rodrigo the great
Rodrigo who never put beans
On his plate
Rodrigo with eyes
That were dreamy and blue
Rodrigo with charm
And a perfect hairdo
Rodrigo had style
Rodrigo had merit
Rodrigo would often
Be found eating carrots
Rodrigo the bold,
And Rodrigo the fair
Rodrigo who never
Would fall down the stairs
Rodrigo had smiles
That lit up the room
Rodrigo could juggle ten knives
And a broom
Rodrigo could solve
All equations he found
There’s only one time
That he has fallen down
Rodrigo eight times
Won gold medals for track
And’s been known to recite
Ten stanzas, back-to-back
Rodrigo could brighten up
Any sad day
I don’t like him though,
He’s not real, anyway
And even were he
As real as could be
He’s much too amazing and perfect for me
