Pinching Cheeks

Pinching Cheeks

As churches fill up with distant relatives and old friends come the holidays, we kids shield our faces from the inevitable cheek pinching.

On Easter, since our family goes to my grandparents’ church, there are only old people. And that means that they always come to me, my sister, and my brother, and they grab our cheeks and pull them side to side and say stuff like, “Oh, you’re just so grown up,” or they say “Oh, do you remember me?” And in my head, I’m thinking, “No, I do not remember you or know who you are!” So then when we go home, we all have really red cheeks.
